Grades

There are three different year groups on the way to the Abitur. They are called

  • trial level
  • intermediate level
  • upper school

The trial level takes place at our branch, Jacob-Weber-Straße. It comprises years 5 and 6, where the pupils have a school building just for themselves after elementary school. At the end of year 6, it is decided whether the children can remain at the grammar school. This is the case for the vast majority of children. In a few cases, we advise parents to change the type of school in the interests of the child.

With the change to the main building on Laurentiusweg, the middle school begins in Year 7. Pupils must then also choose their second foreign language. They can choose between Latin and French.

There is another choice in year 9. In compulsory elective area II, pupils can choose between computer science, Spanish, natural sciences or English bilingual. Class tests are also written in this elective subject. The intermediate level ends at the end of year 10 with the intermediate school leaving certificate.

After that, students move on to the upper school. The upper school consists of the introductory phase and the qualification phase I and II. It is therefore three school years. While students can still practise their work in the introductory phase, points are collected for the Abitur from the qualification phase onwards. Two advanced courses and several foundation courses are chosen. In the upper school, a lot of emphasis is placed on independent work. Students who have not had a second foreign language up to the upper school can choose to start Spanish again in the introductory phase.

The upper school and the school career ends with the Abitur phase at the end of the qualification phase II.

And after successfully passing the Abitur, we celebrate once again! That’s how we do it here at CHG.
